Which drive is inside my external enclosure?

Many external Blu-ray drives are an internal drive in a case. The brand on the box, such as ASUS or Buffalo, often didn’t make the drive inside, and the firmware you need depends on the drive inside.

Let the app read it

trev.bot flash asks the drive itself for its model and firmware, so it sees the drive inside the case. It’s the quickest way, and it changes nothing. Download trev.bot flash.

Or look in your computer’s device list

  • Windows: Device Manager lists it under DVD/CD-ROM drives, usually by the internal drive’s name.
  • macOS: System Report (System Settings › General › About) lists it under Disc Burning.
  • Linux: the Disks app shows the model.

If you already use MakeMKV, its drive information shows the model and firmware too.

A name starting with HL-DT-ST is an LG drive. Pioneer drives usually show PIONEER and a model such as BDR-XD08.

No need to open the case

You can find everything you need without opening it. Some cases can’t pass flashing commands through, even when the drive inside is supported. Follow the app’s connection guidance before flashing.
